Blog #11 | Full speed ahead!

This week in UNH SEDS news we had quite the special guest tonight, a UNH alumni currently at MIT working towards a Masters in Aeronautics and Astronautics! Through a collaboration with the Society of Women Engineers, we have invited Lena Downes to give a presentation on her experiences.

Hearing her story about finding a passion after having many unrewarding internships was a very impactful story for many of our members. Her research in lunar navigation using databases of recorded craters on the moon was also a neat opportunity for some of our newer members to get an idea of what they could work on in the future.

Speaking of new members, UNH SEDS is now over 40 strong with nearly every new member returning for this meeting. As we grow bigger as an organization, what we can accomplish grows as well. We currently have the most members of any engineering club at UNH, so although many of our founding members are leaving us at the end of this year, we have no doubt that we will continue improving and leading the charge of aerospace in New Hampshire.

As the deadline for the Spaceport America Cup draws closer, all of our engineering teams are at full throttle working tirelessly for our goal of a successful hotfire by the end of February. Packages have been arriving nearly daily now with flow regulation parts, frame structure, and more all thanks to our gracious sponsors who have allowed us to continue at this pace.

If you haven’t already, check out our SpaceVision vlog now being used as the official promotional video by SEDS USA!
